**Don't Just Ask "How Much Does Sharpening Cost?" — Look at the Total Cost Over the Tool's Life**
A quality tool with sufficient cutting material can often be resharpened multiple times, depending on type and condition. A higher purchase price doesn't necessarily mean higher total cost — what matters is **tool life, number of possible regrinds, post-sharpening quality, and cost per use**.
A worn cutting tool doesn't always need replacing — but proper resharpening must preserve tooth geometry, cutting angles, dimensional accuracy, and cutting material quality for the tool to perform well again. Being "resharpenable" and "performing well after resharpening" are two different things, and not every tool on the market is built to hold up equally well through repeated regrinding.

**Not Every Tool Can Be Resharpened the Same Way**
Before we proceed, we assess the tool's condition — cutting material, remaining edge material, tooth damage, original geometry, and sharpening history. Some tools are well-suited to resharpening; others are better served by repair or re-tipping; and some are no longer worth resharpening. **We don't sharpen everything without evaluating it first** — we don't want customers paying for something that won't deliver real value.
**Proper Resharpening Preserves Geometry**
Especially for tools with specific tooth or profile designs (router bits, profile cutters), resharpening must maintain cutting angle, tooth geometry, dimensional accuracy, and balance — not just restore sharpness.

When a tool is still in suitable condition, resharpening extends its life, reduces replacement frequency, and lowers cost per use over time.

If continued resharpening is no longer practical, we'll recommend the better option: **RESHARPEN → REPAIR → RE-TIP → REPLACE → CUSTOM MAKE**
